Soltis Master 99 manages heat and glare at new state-of-the-art forensic pathology laboratory
The newly established Johannesburg Forensic Pathology Facility, adjacent to Helen Joseph Hospital, encompasses offices, laboratories, and educational facilities. This cutting-edge project will serve as the central hub for forensic pathology services in Johannesburg.
Designed as a multi-use facility, it features a laboratory and mortuary, and is integrated with Wits University Medical School for training purposes. Notably, it stands as the largest laboratory on the continent and the first of its kind developed by the Department of Infrastructure.
The Gauteng provincial government has invested R500 million in this advanced facility, which will replace the overburdened forensic pathology mortuary in Hillbrow, thus enhancing the capacity to meet Johannesburg’s service demands.
In the laboratory offices, Soltis 99 high-performance blinds, supplied by Synchron Markings in South Africa, have been installed to manage heat and glare efficiently. Soltis Master 99, a 3% open mesh, minimizes glare for optimal visual comfort in computer workspaces. Its lightweight and thin design makes it ideal for discreet indoor blinds.
Soltis Master 99 effectively creates a barrier against heat, delivering thermal comfort and optimized energy efficiency by reducing the reliance on air conditioning. This is particularly beneficial for laboratory environments.
When selecting fabrics for hospitals and laboratories, light-colored materials that reflect the sun’s heat are recommended to reduce air conditioning needs, thereby maintaining a cool interior and minimizing the carbon footprint.
Soltis 99 features a special treatment incorporating silver particles in a polymeric coating that inhibits virus replication and eliminates 99.5% of viruses. This membrane requires no cleaning, making it low maintenance. If disinfection is desired, it will not damage the membrane’s topcoat.
Ideal for high-traffic public facilities, including healthcare centers, schools, nurseries, offices, retail businesses, cultural institutions, leisure facilities, and public transport vehicles, Soltis 99 has proven its effectiveness. Hospitals across South Africa prefer it not only for its low maintenance but also for its specialized top coat. Unlike conventional hospital curtains that require frequent high-temperature washing to eliminate superbugs—resulting in high water, electricity, and detergent consumption—Soltis 99 offers a sustainable solution. It requires no cleaning and helps manage heat and glare, reducing the need for air conditioning. This makes it an ideal choice for hospitals and medical facilities nationwide.
