TTR solutions for food, wine, spirits and pharmaceuticals.

At this year’s Labelexpo Europe, LEONHARD KURZ presented innovative Thermal Transfer Ribbon (TTR) solutions that do much more than just label. In Barcelona, the focus was on practical applications, with real-life examples from three key industries: food, pharmaceuticals, and spirits. The thin-film specialist demonstrated how the holistic approach of the Thermal Transfer (R)evolution proves its worth in practice in terms of communication, branding, and protection.

“Whether for label printing for small batches of wine, forgery-proof marking of pharmaceutical products, or labels for sustainable paper packaging: At Labelexpo Europe, we once again demonstrated that our products are both technically impressive and create real added value in our customers’ everyday lives,” explains Ivo Kionka, Managing Director of KURZ Typofol GmbH.

Sustainable packaging with the Koehler NexPlus® Seal Bundle from Koehler Paper

The food industry is under increasing pressure to develop packaging solutions that are both functional and environmentally friendly. One example of such a solution is the Koehler NexPlus® Seal Bundle from Koehler Paper – a recyclable packaging material that contains no plastic. KURZ presented matching Thermal Transfer Ribbons such as the K 7 EVO, which have been specially developed for printing on these substrates. Visitors to the trade fair stand had the opportunity to examine pre-printed samples and see the print quality and material compatibility for themselves. With its focus on communication, the system contributes to seamless traceability in the food sector by enabling reliable TTR labelling even on demanding substrates.

Wine labels with character – even in small batches

Wine is far more than a product – it’s an experience and a reflection of craftsmanship. That’s why creating a label that evokes emotion and authenticity is essential, especially for small and medium-sized wineries striving to stand out in a competitive market.

At KURZ, innovation meets artistry. The TTR NOVA label project demonstrated how premium design, durability and efficiency can work together – even for smaller print runs. With dazzling holographic effects and remarkable visual depth, TTR NOVA transforms every bottle into a statement piece, while its flexible application and stable performance ensure consistent quality from start to finish.

Beyond TTR NOVA, KURZ also offers a range of customisable TTR solutions, including CI-compliant colours that empower brands to strengthen their visual identity with precision, which brings individuality and brilliance to every label. Because in the world of wine, it’s not just about what’s in the bottle – it’s also about the story that begins with the label.

Safety labelling in pharmaceutical logistics

In the pharmaceutical industry, counterfeit-proof labelling and reliable traceability are essential, especially in the global trade of sensitive medicines. Using a case study with PROFILABEL, KURZ demonstrated how these requirements can be efficiently implemented with TTR Unique UV. This allows invisible security features to be integrated directly into existing thermal transfer printing processes without additional effort. This makes TTR Unique UV an efficient, practical solution that provides greater product protection without any technical barriers to entry – even in series production. The security features are visible under UV light and can be used as part of a multi-level protection concept.

Even under difficult climatic conditions, the solution ensures tamper-proof and permanently legible labelling. At the same time, it meets all common requirements for industrial processing and logistics. With a focus on protection, KURZ showed how reliable counterfeit protection can be easily and economically integrated into existing processes – optionally with additional solutions such as TTR Unique VEROSPEC®, which enable machine-readable authenticity verification.

The focus of the KURZ trade fair presentation was thermal transfer solutions for the food, wine, spirits and pharmaceutical industries; security solutions; and counterfeit protection.
